Technology Use in my Classroom- 2.21.18

A technology tool I plan to use in my classroom this week as an informal assessment tool is Padlet. I. Love. Padlet. and my students do, too! Padlet is the perfect tool that allows individuals to create a product while communicating ideas simply & effectively. Padlet starts as a blank wall and users (who have access to the wall) can put anything they want on it- anywhere! Users can type, add images,  recordings, videos, links, and music. It really allows the users to personalize their wall and my students love this!

In my classroom this week, I plan to use Padlet while incorporating a digital Jigsaw Activity. Students will be individually researching an assigned body system in small groups. As students find valuable information, they will add this information to their Padlet wall. Students should not duplicate information because they will be able to view what other members of their group have posted. Because we are pushed for time, students will not be able to present their system to the rest of the class. Instead of managing 7-8 presentations per class, students will be able to visit the different walls during a carousel-type setup and take notes over each system.

One great thing about Padlet is that is does not require many devices. Classroom computers can be logged on to Padlet and students can go to these class devices during transitions or independent work and answer the prompt. One issue with this setup I have experienced in the past is monitoring appropriate responses. If the wall is not monitored closely and students are feeling brave, some may try to post inappropriate comments. This issue has been discussed in class and students are aware that disciplinary action will result if needed.

  1. I love the idea of using Padlet for a group project! I have always wanted to try that with my students in my classroom. We have mostly tablets and I wonder how Padlet will work with those. Please keep us updated with how it went. I want some feedback before I try it with my younger class. :)

  2. I love Padlet, too! I really like giving students the ability to make decisions about their learning, and about how they demonstrate their learning. It makes them so much more invested when they really care about it, and they produce much better results.
